Is there a correlation between pornography and human trafficking? Short answer, yes! In this training, we will cover the relationship between the two as well as the long-term negative effects of pornography on the mental, emotional, and physical well-being of those consuming it.
Safe House Training Path
- 9:00 a.m. - 10:15 a.m. - Realities of Aftercare
This class is strongly encouraged for anyone interested in serving with Poiema and required for anyone wishing to serve at our safe house. This training addresses myths and misconceptions commonly held about victims and survivors of human trafficking and helps shape a more accurate “lens” for identifying and understanding the effects of trafficking. Content includes trauma’s effect on the brain, shame identity, perpetrator luring techniques, risk factors for potential victims, and the importance of trauma-informed care.
- 10:25 a.m. - 11:40 a.m. - Strength-based Approach to Life
This class is strongly encouraged for anyone interested in serving with Poiema and required for anyone wishing to serve at our safe house. It’s natural to notice the negatives in a situation or the weaknesses in ourselves and others. Strength-based training empowers us to find the positive. This vital life skill will help us in any setting and is especially needful when working with survivors of sexual exploitation. Strength-based training views people as resourceful and resilient in the face of adversity. We focus on future outcomes and building an individual’s capacity to resolve problems and deliver their own solutions. We capitalize on God-given strengths to aid recovery and empowerment.
- 11:50 a.m. - 1:05 p.m. - Survivor Care
This class is strongly encouraged for anyone interested in serving with Poiema and required for anyone wishing to serve at our safe house. Our Survivor Care Training explains how to set healthy boundaries and will equip our volunteers to minister with discretion and sensitivity. It will explain the importance and necessity of trauma informed care. Many people find themselves fearful to interact with survivors, but this training affirms that simple, caring friendship and patient listening goes a long way towards healing.
